During the coming month of February, I will be in Kapolei, HI for the second year in a row. This year I plan on taking advantage of Hawaii’s amazing beauty to learn more about macro photography. Macro photography is just another way of saying “really zoomed in”. The goal is to zoom in on a subject in order to capture detail that the naked eye doesn’t have the benefit of seeing. Beyond that, the goal is the same as any photograph you take… you want people to say – “wow!”.
I’ll add new posts here as I come across interesting subjects to “zoom in on”.

In February 2010, this was the view from my Kapolei, HI beach front condo. Glad I had my camera because you don’t get to experience this sort of paradise very often.
Travel Light with Light

When working in the studio one has the advantage of a controlled environment without the need to transport equipment from point A to point B. Good studio equipment is quite heavy because it is heavy-duty. So how do you get the benefit of controlled studio light when you’re out at a location shoot? One option is to place those smaller speedlights on travel-size tripods and hope the wind doesn’t blow them over because they cost around $400 each.
